I\'m installing 2 single aluminium cables as a catB system. I\'ve always gone by fig 3.14 that signal strip must be installed in the trench as well as the magslab. 3.11.4.5 as I read it backs that up - shall be positioned at approximately 50% of the depth of the cover above the wiring system OR any additional mechanical protection. Talking to the Dingo digger he says he\'s done dozens of trenches where mag slab only has been installed. One of us is right....

You are correct the early warning marker tape is requirement of AS/NZS 3000:2007 and more recent issues.

Note the half depth requirement is to give an early warning of a electric cable below. The marking tape needs to comply with AS/NZS 2648.1 so that it picked up by a digger bucket it will stretch to about 3 or 4 times its original length before breaking and thus give a good early warning.
