Posted By Topic: Intermediate Switch question

Apr 26 2018 20:22

Hey team,
Got a small issue, basically its a 6 way lighting circuit but instead of running the control and feed to one of the standard switches on the end they have been run to one of the intermediate switches in the center on the circuit.

Apparently it used to work but the builder d/ced it before i saw how it was wired. Any ideas on how to make it work? google hasn\'t been much help.

At the feed end put the red of the 3core in loop terminal and feed in common. At the other end put the red of the 3core in common. At the switch with the light control put the red of the 3core in loop terminal with the light wire.

I\'m not sure if this will show up. As long as the 3core goes to every switch, it\'s simple.

Pretty much what Apprentice said. The active (feed) would get connected to one cables red of the 3C, provided they have connected whites in 1s and blue in 2s throughout, and the red of the 3C going the other way would get connected to the load. Quite easy if you draw it out.

where are you getting a lamp neutral from?

In particular if the light control wire is connected to a switch in the middle of the 2 way/intermediate switches.

Another way, if you have a PDL intermediate mech, put the feed in with one of the straps in terminal 1 and the load with the other strap in terminal 3.

Terminals 2 and 4 get strapped to the next switch. Common from the other switches is connected straight through.

Pluto, if the light was wired back to an intermediate, and it was working before, it is safe to assume there is a neutral there.

So the builder disconnected it?

Logical option would be to charge the builder an \"extra\" for dealing with the results - and warn him not to do that again - it\'s PEW, and he is not allowed to do it.

Google may be your friend but pencil and paper is your best buddy, works every time for me!

I\'ll try another version of the diagram..

FFS - this is the 21st century. Surely we should be able to upload and display a simple image! The file size of the images I uploaded are small enough, and display perfectly in any image viewer. This page is reducing the quality even further.

Here\'s the image in the same resolution

So that image host doesn\'t work.
